Holiday Head Lice: 4 Tips To Fight The Pesky Critter

It’s that time of year again: Holiday parties, snow-time fun and cozying up side-by-side in front of the fireplace. But in a time filled with holiday cheer, most people don’t realize that winter fun and head lice go hand in hand. With your loved ones (and their friends!) in such close quarters, lice has ample opportunity to spread from one coco sipper to another.

Keep the pesky critter away this season: Follow these 4 simple tips.

Don’t Share Gear
With everyone in such close quarters during the holidays it makes it very easy for lice to spread. If you read our blog regularly, you know that lice can’t jump from head to head. They do spread quite easily through winter must-haves like hats, gloves, scarves, and cozy layers. How often have you ever asked your friend to borrow some mittens on a cold day? Think again next time.
Once a week, throw all backpacks and winter clothing in the dryer on high heat for 20 minutes. Spray your furniture and anything too large to wash with a Lice Combative Household Spray.

Travel Wisely
Hopping on an airplane or packed car this season? Repel lice before you even hit the road! Make sure every kiddo has their own suitcase with their packed clothing, as well as their own pillowcase (better safe than sorry!). Keep a bottle of peppermint oil as well during traveling, it’s a natural repellent that’ll leave you feeling festive. A little dab around your head rests will do you! Wash up with Lice Prevention Shampoo and Conditioner, it’s your best defence against the pesky critter. Then, spray your luggage with Household Spray.

Educate
Better safe than sorry! You know it, but do your children understand the importance of not sharing hats, bows, coats, gloves, & pillows during sleepovers? What about their stuffed animals or hair accessories? If your little one is headed to a Princess Party, remind her to wipe down the tiara before she plays. Helmets, hats, and all toys should be bagged in an airtight container for 2 weeks if you ever suspect a nearby outbreak.
Don’t forget, high heat is your friend! Throw frequently used items in the dryer on high heat for 20 minutes throughout the season.

Prevention Is Key
It’s a lot easier to prevent lice than it is to get rid of them once they’ve already infested your world. In the winter, your little ones are more likely to play together in close quarters, all of those heads so close together can lead to spreading more than holiday cheer.
Use Lice Prevention products every single day, and be sure to comb through your family’s hair at least once a month. If an outbreak does occur, this kit has everything you need for the entire family, so you can get back to enjoying holiday cheer.

Don’t forget; knowledge is power! Lice is most common between the ages of 4 and 11, and seen most frequently in girl.
